Breaking: Palin not running for president

(This would have been posted sooner, except for the recent LJ maintenance dealy.)

Sarah Palin announced today that she won't be running for President in 2012. Hotair.com has the essential links and updates, so click the link and read. (For an exit quotation, I'll leave with Allahpundit's opinion about how Herman Cain will benefit the most from the development.) My version will be hopefully posted during the weekend, give or take a few days. Otherwise, discuss away in the meantime.

Exit quotation: "My guess is that Cain benefits the most from her absence. Like her, he’s a Beltway outsider, and like her, he seems like a real person, not a talking-points machine like the Romneybot or a back-slapping gladhander like Perry. Authenticity has always been key to Palin’s appeal among her supporters and that’s Cain all over. Besides, where else could her supporters go realistically? Romney’s too centrist and Bachmann’s a lost cause. And Perry’s been knocked by Palin (sometimes by name, sometimes not) for both his crony-capitalist tendencies and his Gardasil initiative, so unless she ends up endorsing him, there’s every reason for her fans to think he’s a nonstarter. My hunch is that some of them also resent Perry (and to a lesser degree Bachmann) for having jumped in before her, since they split the bloc of grassroots conservative votes that might otherwise have gone entirely to her. In a straight-up Romney/Palin race, with no big donors having migrated to Perry and no social conservatives in Iowa having migrated to Bachmann, maybe she could have pulled the upset. But not now."

Apparently, ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean has a few kind words to say about Sarah Palin. Consider it as a nice, mini-palate cleanser with the recent batch of entries. Special thanks to Big Hollywood.

I'll try to post Palin's latest "On The Record" interview by tonight or tomorrow.
Subbing for Bill O'Reilly, Laura Ingraham had Ann Coulter as a guest on last night's "The O'Reilly Factor." The most noteworthy tangent involved Coulter waxing about Sarah Palin's "Will She, Won't She" approach to the 2012 Presidential race and her overall electablity (or lack thereof). As per the Subject line, Coulter believes it is now time to "fish or cut bait" with Palin.

The Right Scoop, which has embedded video within, goes with the positive position:

Here’s the bottom line on where I stand. I can’t predict the future and I’ve not been in politics all that long like Coulter and Ingraham. But I just believe it’s foolish to dismiss Sarah Palin out of hand as these two did. I strongly believe she will be a force to be reckoned with when she jumps on the campaign trail. And from what I understand, she loves to be the underdog.

***

Also, let me quote Dan Cleary from the last Karl Rove Post: “Bill Clinton didn’t announce his candidacy until October 3, 1991. Reagan waited until November 11, 1979. We know how those two campaigns worked out. Just a little historical perspective to keep in mind.”

For a counter-opinion, Allahpundit sums it up thusly:

Interesting segment, not because Coulter’s advancing any new criticisms of Palin but because she’s willing to acknowledge openly the political risk on the right in criticizing her in the first place. According to Coulter, conservatives refuse to challenge Palin publicly because they don’t want to deal with the hate mail from her supporters. That’s part of it, I’m sure — by now, all columnists and bloggers know what awaits after criticizing Palin or, say, Ron Paul — but I suspect the better part is that there’s simply no faster ticket to RINOville among some grassroots conservatives than uttering a discouraging word about Sarah. It’s the ultimate “one of us” litmus test; not even a right-winger as stalwart and confrontational as Coulter is immune, apparently, from the inevitable establishment/RINO/sellout/”Beltway cocktail party” nonsense afterward. That said, I’m curious why she’s speaking up now. Has she reached the point where she just doesn’t care anymore? Or is she so worried about the election that she’s willing to lose some fans in the interest of maximizing the GOP’s advantage?

If possible, I may write my own take on the matter, in due course. Until then, I'll leave it as an Open Discussion. I wanted to address the issue, before I fade into obscurity for a while. Heh.

Have a good night, everyone.

Update/Exit question: The Right Scoop has an interesting counter-update to Coulter, in regards to her and her desired candidate, New Jersey governor Chris Christie:

One more thing. As Ash Tillotson points out on Twitter, how does Coulter justify waiting on Christie but wants Palin to stop teasing? Sounds like she believes one candidate is worth waiting on…and one is not.

An Autumn absence PSA

For the next few months, I will be on a semi-permanent hiatus. Unfortunately, the grounds of a long-term family emergency has just occurred, and I have to shift my focus elsewhere. In addition, I have to deal with one or two emerging computer problems, complicating things even further. (Worst case scenario is that I may have to return to the library format for a little while.)

Because of both matters, I hope for me or my co-Mod to field a temporary replacement until I get my affairs in order. If he or she does a good job, the position could become permanent. The only pre-requisite is that he or she has to be somewhat active on the comm, be it Comments or Entries. The entry is for anyone wishing to apply, and we'll hash out the details in the Comments. If there is no one available at the present time, then we'll make due with what we have. (If my co-Mod has a better option in mind, I'll certainly heed to it, as well.)

Bear with me in the meantime, as always. Hope everyone has had a good Labor Day weekend, and see you all around in some form or another.

As a bonus, here is video of Chris Wallace's post-interview reaction with Sarah Palin.

Linked below is video of Sarah Palin's speech at Indianola, Iowa, yesterday. (The embedded option is disabled, hence the hyperlink mode.) I'll leave the matter as a standard Open Discussion, for the moment. Meanwhile, Hotair.com has a good round-up of the speech and its overall political implications. Enjoy.

Here is a reminder that "The Undefeated" has been released on Pay-Per-View and On Demand, starting yesterday. If you missed it in the theaters, here is your second chance. Big Hollywood has the press release text, if anyone is interested.

Palin won't announce Labor Day weekend

National Review Online's Robert Costa has a run-down about Sarah Palin's upcoming Iowa speech, Labor Day Weekend. Even though, it has been speculated she might do so, she won't be using the venue to announce her candidacy for the 2012 Presidential race. Further details, especially for those interested in the contents of said speech, are within the link. Special thanks to Hotair.com.

As per the Subject line, Fox News has a new poll, asserting that Sarah Palin shouldn't run for 2012 by 74%.

For a palate cleanser, enjoy Dave Roever, a Vietnam Vet, getting make-up done by Palin herself. Best I can do on short notice. Enjoy.

Have a good night.
Apparently, the previously mentioned "Sarah Palin at the Iowa Tea Party during Labor Day Weekend" has been unconfirmed, then reconfirmed, in the past few days. The latest development is that the snafu came from the organizers' end of things, not Palin's. Since the matter is confusing me, I'll just post the Hotair link detailing said developments and go on my merry way.
